Key signatures are formed or let's say discovered from the cycle of fourths (for flat keys) and fifths (for sharp keys). Chord progressions, especially in jazz, are based on moving up in fourths a lot of the time, so I recommend memorising (and seeing on your internal piano) the cycle of fourths like you know the alphabet. Use it to train yourself on chord types and progressions in all keys. Very easy once major scale mastery is achieved.
